Tesco, Game And The 3DS Debacle

Eurogamer is running a story on a memo sent to GAME stores regarding the 3DS launch.

Story Here

Knowing that GAME could not match Tesco's price for the 3DS, £209 for the 3DS and a game, GAME hq authorised the staff to take money from the tills, head up to Tesco and buy their stock, which in turn would then be traded back in at GAME for the same price.

The reason being that GAME stores would have pre-owned stock for launch day, and if demand was high enough that the allotted stock sold out they would have the "new" pre-owned to sell at full price.

I don't see too much of a problem, Tesco is a supermarket and can afford to drastically reduce prices on their electrical goods and video games, they can make up for it with profits from other items.

And it is making sure that GAME has plenty of stock, yes it may be abit unfair to Tesco customers, clubcard points are important after all, but GAME need to sell consoles and games to make a profit, because they don't sell anything other than consoles, games and accessories.

Yes you can buy games cheaper online, as I have done in the last few weeks, but I honestly enjoy going into my local GAME, I like the staff and they all genuinely know what they are talking about.

I know some people will say GAME are being money grabbing gits over this, but it's nothing new. It's business.

  1. I think retailers should employ whatever sneaky tactics they can when it comes to going up against supermarkets.

  2. If the supermarkets get their way, and start selling absolutely everything cheaper than dedicated shops... well they are giving it a damn good shot, the dedicated stores will go out off business.

Plus I've bought games from tescos before, nothing like being looked at like your a freak by the checkout girl.. Damned viva piƱata..
